Astilbe Fanal is one of the darkest red flowers of all Astilbes and this is a standout plant with its dark crimson plumes of flowers that rise above the attractive bronze foliage. Each plume is made up of densely packed tiny flowers that open in succession which gives this plant a long flowering season. It is an excellent cut flower and also dries particularly well. As summer progresses the foliage turns dark green with a reddish hue.
Astilbes are low maintenance and are happy in heavy shade but also happy with dappled light. It is the perfect perennial for a shady area and it is equally at home by streams and ponds as it is in containers. This cultivar is compact with its attractive fern-like foliage lasting until winter in colder areas where it will die back to return again in again spring. Deadheading is not even needed provided you don't mind the attractive faded flower stems. Plants should be divided every few years to ensure strong flowering. Astilbes look wonderful woven in amongst Hostas Hellebores and Alchemilla mollis
We also have two other varieties of Astilbes Diamant and Astilbe van der Wielen
