Amaranthus cruentus | Hopi Red Dye
Such a stunning colour! Rich, deep burgundy/red, with it's delicate and graceful curves, it's a designer's dream for bouquet and centerpiece floristry work right from its very first cuts.
Those first cuts are perfect for large installation work, and multiple secondary cuts are perfect for bouquets. The flower bracts are used to colour Hopi piki bread too. Although it is best used as a food dye, you can use it to obtain yellows and oranges on wool with the use of fixatives which come out about as same tones as turmeric or onion skins. Grows to 1metre tall and needs planting about 40 cm wide. Does best in full sun. A plant made to have fun with!
Pot size: 1 litre.
