Monarda didyma 'Aquarius', commonly known as bee balm or scarlet bee balm, is a striking perennial plant belonging to the mint family, Lamiaceae. This cultivar is particularly noted for its vibrant, deep red flowers, which bloom in dense, whorled clusters atop tall, square stems. The plant typically reaches a height of about 60 to 90 centimeters and has aromatic, lance-shaped leaves that can be slightly hairy.

Bee balm is not only visually appealing but also a must-have if you want to attract beneficial insects into your garden, including bees and butterflies, making it a great addition to pollinator gardens. The flowers usually bloom from mid to late summer, providing a burst of color when many other plants are starting to fade.

Monarda didyma 'Aquarius' thrives in well-drained soil and prefers full sun to partial shade. It is relatively easy to grow and can be a great choice for borders, cottage gardens, or naturalized areas. Additionally, the leaves can be used to make herbal teas, adding to its appeal as both an ornamental and functional plant. Overall, this cultivar is appreciated for its beauty, fragrance, and ability to support local wildlife.
