perfect for pollinators

This beautiful variety has scalloped white flowers with attractive gold-coloured whiskers which will bloom from early to late summer.  The flowers are held on slender stems above the pale green leaves.
The Corncockle is a 'cottage garden' plant of old, it is fast-growing and makes a great wildflower meadow or cottage garden plant.  Growing to a height of 60cm the graceful stems are perfect for cutting and last well in the vase.

Harvest individual flowers when buds are about ½ way open or harvest large branching stems when most of the buds in the spray are coloured. Expect a vase life of 7 days. Also, a great choice to grow in a pot.

Corncockle will grow well in most soil types but does particularly well on free draining sandy loams. Plants perform at their best when grown in full sun but will tolerate some shade.  Provided with regular water but can withstand brief periods of drought. As it is, in fact, a wildflower do not feed it any fertiliser as it prefers poorer soils. Both bees and butterflies love this plant.  This plant will self-sow so you will always have it but seedlings are easy to remove if unwanted or deadhead prior to setting seed.

The seed of Agrostemma githago contains githagin, a toxic saponin that causes diarrhoea. It is especially toxic to chickens. Care should be taken not to plant where they are likely to graze feed. Plant with caution around children and animals
