Stachys officinalis | Pink | Cotton Candy
Stachys officionalis, also known as Alpine Betony and it is a cousin to the familiar Lamb's-Ears, but not at all similar.
This little clump-forming perennial forms a low mound of attractive shiny green foliage. Plants bear upright spikes of candy pink flowers which appear towards midsummer and into autumn. Removing faded flowers will encourage more buds to form to continue the show.
Both an interesting and unusual perennial for near the front of the border or in containers. Plants can be cut back hard to tidy them up after flowering. Very easily divided to give you more plants in spring.
Foliage may stay evergreen in mild winter regions. These plants make an excellent weed suppressor. This is a tough little plant and ideal for a wild garden or hot rockery where it will hold its own and it is drought tolerant once established, but just as at home in the perennial border. Flowers from early summer and into autumn and its small abundant nectar producing flowers that look like tiny orchids are very attractive to bees and other pollinators.
Happy in full sun and grows in all types of soil including clay and sandy soil. Likes a little bit of moisture. Can also be used as a cut flower.
