Geranium grandiflora (syn. Himalayense)
Geranium himalayense, commonly known as lilac cranesbill, is a delightful perennial plant that originates from the mountainous regions of the Himalayas. This species is appreciated for its attractive foliage and charming flowers.
The plant typically grows to a height of about 30 to 45 cm and spreads out to create a lovely ground cover. Its leaves are deeply lobed and have a rich green color, often turning a striking reddish hue in autumn, adding seasonal interest to the garden.
In late spring to early summer, Geranium himalayense produces beautiful, cup-shaped flowers that has a gradient if color from a deep lavender or lilac to white at its centre. These flowers are borne in loose clusters above the foliage and are known to attract pollinators, such as bees and butterflies.
Himalayan cranesbill prefers well-drained soil and can thrive in full sun to partial shade, making it a versatile choice for various garden settings, including borders, rock gardens, and woodland areas. It is relatively low-maintenance, requiring minimal care once established, and is known for its resilience and ability to tolerate different soil conditions.
