One of our favourite salvia's, salvia leucantha also known as Mexican Bush Sage is prized for its luxurious velvety looking purple flower spikes, that stand proud of the lance-shaped leaves which are a lovely grey-green. This lovely plant is the recipient of the Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society.
Leucantha is easy to grow, thrives in full sun but will also tolerate a bit of partial shade and is happy in average garden soil. It is a standout plant for the garden border, or also will work well in a container with the added benefit of being an excellent flower for cutting and drying.
Plants are drought tolerant once established however plants do thrive more with regular moisture and a layer of mulch will help to retain moisture over the summer months.
Adored by butterflies it is a perfect choice for those wanting to attract more butterflies to their garden.
Plants require very minimal care other than deadheading and pinching out tips to keep the plant nice an bushy. Pruning is easy as you simply cut the old foliage to ground in early spring and the plant will shoot away again.
