Miscanthus sinensis | Morning Light
An ornamental perennial grass that forms a thick clump of narrow, arching slender emerald green blades that are neatly edged with white giving an almost silvery-green effect. Tall spikes of toi-toi like flowers in late summer, that are cream with a pinkish tinge. Discerning Japanese gardeners have been growing this fabulous plant for over 100 years and it is extensively used in gardens in the UK.
Found naturally in moist soil in meadow or marshlands. However, completely at home in garden soil in and will tolerate dryish conditions. This variety is also fine in a well-chosen large pot. Good at the back of the border, as a screening plant or at the water's edge.
Hardy to cold temperatures and will cope with frost and snow. We leave our foliage on for winter interest and then cut back the foliage which dries to a lovely biscuit colour towards the end of the winter. Fabulous as a cut or dried flower. The first photo shows you what it looks like in late autumn. Clumps can be split in spring but need a very sharp spade!
Autumn...simply stunning with this plant in your garden!
