perfect for pollinators

This delightful double rudbeckia laciniata is actually a very old style plant which actually dates back to the Victorian era.  It is a robust perennial with bears tall branched stems that have beautiful fluffy double yellow flowers that are about 7cm in diameter.

This plant flowers profusely from midsummer into autumn and the flowers stand above the deeply lobed foliage which is a beautiful contrasting dark green. Due to its height and the weight of the flowers it can tend to flop so I tend to plant ours at the back amongst other plants that will support it and also do stake them on occasion.

You can help to avoid the floppy growth habit if you in fact pinch the growing tips out in early summer which will promote a more bushy and compact plant. The clumps can reach up to 2.1m and are about 0.9m Wide so be sure to plant them somewhere where you are happy for them to move about!  They are great though at the back of a border and particularly impactful in a meadow style garden and cottage garden.

If you are putting in a cutting garden and want a bright very pretty flower then this Rudbeckia makes an excellent cut flower.  The perfect choice for attracting butterflies to your garden.  The more that you cut the flowers the more this will encourage additional blooming.

Plant in a moist well drained position in full sun to partial shade - happy in most soil types. Plants die back to a crown in winter.

These plants are an enthusiastic spreader but they certainly are a statement plant in the late season garden.

Plants can be divided in spring and autumn and doing this of course will help to control their enthusiastic growth habit.
