Ajuga reptans | Blue
The Bugle is such a popular plant in the garden! I think it's because they are such a reliable semi-evergreen groundcover in the shade. This one is lovely with its dark blue spikes borne in Spring and into summer, adding a rich colour under the deciduous and evergreen trees alike.
They grow 20 cm tall and 40 cm wide, and do spread in the right conditions, which means they enjoy moist soil to keep them growing well. Add compost at the beginning of the growing seaon to keep them happy! The bees love them too.
