perfect for pollinators

This beautiful Echinacea species captivates people due to its beautiful thin pale pink petals and its central prominent cone.  The petals hang like tassessle and it is a much loved perennial. Commonly known as Pale Purple Coneflower, it also features dark slender leaves.  Flowering from late spring through midsummer this beautiful plant is definitely worth a place in perennial borders, wildflower gardens and pollinator gardens.

This lovely flower has been cultivated as a hardy perennial that has been around since the 1700's in both Europe and North America.

Plants grow to between 60-90cm by about 30-45cm in diameter and will grow best in a full sun position in soil that has dry to medium moisture levels but the ground must be well drained.  Once established this plant is more than tolerant of drought, heat and humidity - these plants will thrive on a bit of neglect! It is tolerant of clay soil, dry soil, rocky soil and sandy soils so not overly fussy but in our clay soils we like to add some gravel and mound our plants slightly to give them good drainage. Dies back to a crown in winter and is hardy to cold temperatures.

The perfect choice in garden beds, meadow and wildflower style gardens as well as cottage gardens.

A wonderful cut flower and it left then the seed heads are also an attractive addition to the autumn garden, but the birds also love snacking on them. Loved by the butterflies and the bees. Plants once established can be divided in spring and early autumn by root cuttings and of course you can collect the seed as well.
