Filipendula palmata | Rubra
This spectacular Filipendula has stunning elegant sprays of small deep pink flowers that stand proud above the foliage from early to mid-summer. The flowers are pleasantly fragrant and fade to a pale pink over time. Filipendula palmata Rubra is an excellent statement plant at the back of the border and is perfect for a cottage garden but also for gardeners wanting to create the very popular styles of wild gardens. The plant is popular for both its leaves and its flowers.
Filipendula palmata rubra is particularly suited to wet soils so a perfect choice for alongside streams and ponds and does not mind if the soil is wet or poorly drained but it does not tolerate drought conditions, so mulching will also help over the warmer months. It does like some space as will form a colony reasonably quickly by its creeping roots. It performs at its best in full sun or part shade and is easy to grow with little care required. It will not reflower so there is no need to deadhead as the faded flower heads also look very attract left on the plant. You can cut the flowers and use for drying.
