Lathyrus odoratus | Almost Black | Sweet Pea
'Almost Black' sweet pea is an annual climbing plant, admired for its dramatic, deeply colored flowers. These plants typically grow to heights of about 1.8 to 2.4 meters, making them ideal for climbing on trellises, fences, or other supports. The flowers showcase a very dark, rich, almost black color (as the name would suggest), often appearing as a deep maroon or burgundy in certain lights.
The blooms of 'Almost Black' sweet pea are quite striking, with the classic pea-flower shape. They have a slender, climbing habit, producing numerous flower clusters. The foliage is a vibrant green color, with tendrils that help the plant to cling to supports.
These sweet peas are relatively easy to cultivate, thriving in full sun and well-drained soil. They are a popular choice for gardens, especially for adding a touch of drama and elegance. They are also excellent for cut flower arrangements, providing a unique and eye-catching element.
