The little Aster that is actually a Solidago or Goldenrod! Also known as the Upland White Aster.  Although this little plant has been classified for many years as an Aster, taxonomists have determined that this species is actually a Goldenrod based on its flower structure. That aside it is a dear little plant with flowers that are fantastic for cutting and definitely should be something you should consider for your cut flower patch if you are a florist or a flower farmer - the flowers can last in a vase for 7-10 days and are also great dried.

In summer and into late autumn, the plants have a profusion of delicate aster like pretty white flowers that are held on airy sprays above the plant.  Loved by butterflies this little plant is super easy to grow and very well behaved. It is not overly fussy on soil and will cope with damp soils, but it does appreciate good drainage.  Drought tolerant once establish Solidago ptarmacoides is also happy in full sun or partial shade. Easily divided to give you more plants in spring.
