Syringa x laciniata also known as the feathered Persian Lilac is a graceful, rounded shrub with loose panicles of 7cm long fragrant beautiful soft lavender-violet coloured flowers that appear in late spring. The branches are willowy and arching and the flowers form along the branches. Equally as attractive is the foliage which is lacy with the leaves being deeply cut. The foliage turns shades of yellowy green in the autumn. An outstanding lilac worthy of a spot in the garden. Can be used as a specimen shrub or in a mixed border
Very attractive to butterflies. Great for a cut flower
Whilst this plant is a sun lover, it will produce flowers in partial shade but best flower production is in full sun. When planting in full sun be sure to add a layer of mulch to keep in the moisture. Plant in humus rich soil but good drainage is essential. Prune immediately after flowering. Removing the flowers before they set seed will increase the number of flowers the following year. Plants will sucker so remove suckers to maintain a neat appearance.
This variety is not susceptible to mildew and is noted for its heat tolerance so is a perfect choice for warmer climates and areas with hot summers.
